Inkscape is not stopped by this from using Alt+mouse, and I think
neither should you. We just added a FAQ entry on this:

I have a nasty suspision that asking a user to change the configuration
of their WM will not be acceptable. On the other hand Gnome allows you
to use the Windows key as the move modifier, now we just need to
persuade them that this should be the default setting!
Of course this all become more complex when compiz \ Xgl become more
wide spread, since it uses a much larger range of modifier keys.
