Agreed. There seems to be the perception, that it's worthless (because not
"real" OS), superfluous (because we have Incscape), does not lead to anything...
It's about perception, and what you perceive is real, you know ;-)
Last year, we had a somewhat comparable situation within the Cinelerra community.
(It was not so explicit as with xaralx, though). Mostly due to internal technical
problems in combination with the way the overall project works. Then, Christian
Thaeter, Herman Robak and myself stepped ahead with a "refactor and rework" project
plan with some milestones and today we have Lumiera (see http://lumiera.org)
as a spin off project alive and striving. So, bottom line, if a small number of
people just ignores what seems to be obvious and goes ahead, matters change.
