It actually depends on whether the text story is wrapping.  E.g. if you
create a wrapping story by dragging the baseline and then typing lots of
text, when you fit it to a curve you do get the indent blobs.

Basically, the indent blobs on the path correspond with the end blobs on
the baseline of a wrapping text story...

Ah, now I see - the handles only show up when you *type* text on a 
curve. Up to now, I only used the "Fit text to curve" menu entry. 
Surely, text on curve created that way should display the handles, 
too? The end result of either creation method should be the same.
